The powerful tool to create travel/geo infographics and animated maps. You can even add the stickers on the planet!

Example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq_DvPoCMmM

The video output is strikingly beautiful, even at default settings. How are you generating the videos? Is that server-side, or some third-party service?

Once settings get changed, the generator seems overloaded as each change takes considerably more to create the video and eventually it just spins forever.

Hi! Thank you for feedback! We use our own engine on Unity to render videos on the server, and yeah it’s highloaded now. We don’t have the same resources as google earth, unfortunately.

Google likes to (semi-legally) kill other people software they don't like, like they killed Gaia, the Open Source Google Earth client (which was, in many ways, technically superior to Google's, btw.)

That makes me worry how long we'll have gmaps data in BlenderGIS. Although the OSM data is pretty dang good; less chance of running into some godforsaken royalty thingamabob.

Speaking of which, BlenderGIS would be a pretty neat geo viz platform for presentations. Bit too much of a learning curve for Normal People though.

It’s not a google earth client. We have our own engine. We only use the directions/geocoding apis from google, but probably going to alternatives
