Windows is a particularly funny one, considering how quick the advice for most issues turns to doing a fresh install. It's a very brittle black box once you try to do any amount of changes from default settings.

That's not remotely true. Saying that as a Windows user for three last 35 years.


Every time I've ever had Windows issues. A fresh install is suggested no less than 3 steps into the troubleshooting process.

Usually something like:

1. Run these handful of commands that never actually fix anything but take hours to complete (sfc/dism/chkdsk/etc).

2. Reseat RAM/GPU/CMOS.

3. Out of ideas, may as well just fresh install.
