They can't, not even remotely close any time in the next 20 years at least. Can you imagine what a landing beach would look like being pounded by drone spotted artillery? See war in Ukraine. Forget the approach, anti ship missiles, mines, sheer volume of logistics needed. Stepping on the landing beach is a suicide without absolutely astronomical advantage in air power and ability to suffer huge attrition, even then.. 155mm hidden under camo/thermal nets, DJI drone rigged with magazines of small bombs.. Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson Childs play, this would make Diep and Galipoli look like walk in the park.
I would go as far as to say that US Army + Marines + Navy could not land on Taiwan without suffering multiple brigades of attrition AFTER at least a year long blockade and air campaign. It is that hard.
PRC has to surpass US in GDP, then spend 10-20 years of US level military spending, then maybe.
That simple sentence is doing a lot of heavy dodging to ignore all of the points brought up in the post upthread about the inherent difficulties involved in naval landings.
Now, if you're going to say economic pressures will lead to political settlements without conflict, then that's a discussion to be had.
Putin called he needs your brilliant strategic advice. 1 week to Kyiv or was it 2 days? I can't recall. This kind nationalistic PRC BS is how they will start a war, get defeated than have another civil war with 100 million dead.
The introduction seems questionable. Practically in every category that counted Americans were ahead. Artillery The God of War, number of tanks vastly outnumbering Germans and Sherman was as good as PzIV, Airpower, motorized transport. Most importantly logistics Americans had food, clothing, fuel. The way that intro is written it sounds like he is talking about Finland vs USSR ;)
This is why going back to Math is always the way. Out of 100 students in Econ 101. How many can read a problem and setup then solve a simple linear system? Forget it how many can solve a linear system
Old professor I had in university would do a Math quiz in the first class, with disclaimer on the paper: If you find this hard save your money and drop out. Just some basic Algebra. Tenure and teaching for 30 years, he genuinely did not give a fuck. Of course lots of people would skip first class due to their O week..
Same epic prof would give exactly same tests year to year with 2-3 number changed around.. then fail everyone who provided answers from a wrong year. You would think people would learn or word would get passed down.. nope.
It is worse than that. We tell kids that at age 18 they are supposed to have some lofty dreams to follow.. which results in them picking whatever THING that is popular around them, but mostly just getting drunk daily in college.
The most worthless garbage degrees are studies that people go to "help" people. Critical thinking: regurgitate The Message, paint hair purple, get a Communist party pin and spew some trash about boycot/divesting from Israel? Of course any mention of opposing ideas is a trigger and actual violence.
I'm from foreign yugoslavia, then slovenia, and we did just the same as you guys did... if you had to take the bus, your parents would go with you the first few days, so you'd remember where to get off the bus, and after that, you'd be on your own. Also, it was not unusual for kids to get home at 12, and parents at 17h (5pm for americans), and we just either watched tv at home, or went out with other kids.
School that has to obey idiotic laws. After couple grades depending on school and teacher will look the other way but grade 1-2 no.
I like teachers in our school I think most know how stupid this is, but do they want to lose their job and career over it..?
Of course there are also idiotic parents but they are minority.
Like the ones that don’t allow their kids to use matches when they are 9.. or use sharp knife at same age poor kid had his eye pop out when he saw my younger daughter(6) cut a steak with a knife. Blows my mind.
They had centralized fully functional states that maintained economy that could supply cities as large or larger than Europe.
Japan was not made by Meiji, it was transformed but foundation of the "miracle" was there. During sengoku it created and armed with locally built firearms armies that dwarfed that of any European state of the time in one generation.. from bows to hundred thousands of muskets
Culture >> everything. In 1945 Beirut was a paradise compared to burned to the ground Tokyo and every other major city. In few decades it had built dams like Kurobe, challenged and beat American car manufacturers.. resources, colonialism.. right. Whoever was running the place knew how to do it, they do not know now and very unlikely to learn in the next 100 years.
Their quality is fine. I have a lot of their cycling stuff. Of course those short are not gone give Bioracer run for its money.. but they are good enough. Their jerseys are good, I have their RC550 bike and it is good(not the tires).
They have dirt cheap fishing gear kids love, also just generic kids clothing is pretty ok.
Their winter ski stuff is also good(clothing, never tried actual skis or boots). It is not high end, meaning heavy not as warm etc but for the price it is great, for riding a lift whole day great deal.
Make sure to check sizing. It is kind "interesting" I can wear medium size ski bibs(686, Burton etc), Decathlon large I could not squeeze into. They were super nice bibs too, too bad they did not have XL or I would have bought them
