I had a 5 digit one. Unless my mind is playing tricks on me.

Huh? My understanding is that they have religion data only for catholics/protestants, and only on local level, not in a central database. Which yes that should be killed too but no other faith is recorded, since they only collect taxes for those two.

The idea as far as I understand it is that it’s the point exactly to sit with and process whatever comes up in your mind when you don’t distract yourself. The more often you do it, the more present you become, and the more ability you develop to discriminate between what really is there and what is your imagination/unprocessed memories of the past. The object you focus on merely serves as a still reference point from which you look at what else is showing up (feelings, thoughts, memories).

There will always be anxiety, otherwise you would have processed it already and not hurried away into other activities. It sure feels life-threatening, but as long as you don’t give in to the illusion and remind yourself that it is not, there is no rational reason to jump away. Breathing is a typical way to remind yourself that you are safe in the present environment. And the gift you receive is more and more clarity and a relaxed base state from which to face what’s next.

> The process would be safer (and less painful) if the path mimicked a caesarean section, with the baby exiting through the navel.

Prenatal development research posits that natural birth is a required “early training experience” and that a lack or disruption of that collaboration between mother, environment and (already conscious) baby during pregnancy and during birth (like cesarean) may result in various psychological deficiencies/difficulties later in life.

See eg.

I'm sorry, first link is from an organization dedicated to this fringe theory.

Second link is pretty dated and I wonder if more recent studies back this finding.

Side note: FaceID only unlocks if you actually look at the screen. If you’re careful to avoid that, one would have to physically force your eyes to do that without also covering other necessary areas of your face.

A kid and I sometimes engage in a game where they try to get me to look where necessary, so far without success.

  > FaceID only unlocks if you actually look at the screen.
You need "Require Attention for Face ID" turned on for this

I don’t see the point in buying a Kindle if you plan to jailbreak it anyway. Hardware wise, a wide range of better alternatives are available.

Always had my eye on the Oasis line. There's something about the apparent ergonomics that look precisely like what I've always wanted in an e-reader but just isn't there in any other that I've seen. The Kobo Libra only almost nails it; bummer, since it has a color screen.

In any case, Oasis firmware seems to already be capped and isn't among the models being sunset anyway, should I decide to try it out.

Want to follow up for anyone possibly taking ideas from my post (though I've already put in an order on an un-registerable Oasis) -- if I had a bigger budget, the Boox Go 7 (2nd gen) looks like the way to go.

You may enjoy the movie “Sovereign”.

remember: this is the loud bot, so that you think you've found all of the agit-prop; it's a distraction. the real shill-botting is far more subtle

I'm shocked no one has figured out who this is. For anyone that hasn't figured it out -- hi weev!

>Your Empire murdered my Cherokee ancestors and made up lies about them; said they were all a bunch of dirty savages.

Weev has native american ancestry.

>Your Empire murdered my Confederate ancestors and made up lies about them; said they were all a bunch of inbred racist losers.

Weev is well known for southern / confederate rhetoric

>Your Empire has fucked me over personally in numerous ways that I will never, ever forget or forgive. And no, it wasn't my fault, as you Imperial goons always like to claim about your victims.

Weev was falsely convicted under fraudulent jurisdiction, then the morons that did it were forced to release him, and then essentially run out of the country before it could happen again.

>Your Empire continues to murder people around the entire world in my name, which despite being against everything I stand for, will in the end only bring more destruction to my doorstep.

Weev also has jewish ancestry.

>I am only one of a giant growing horde of Others who feel exactly the same way about the crookedness of your dying Empire. Finally, hundreds of years of murder, robbery, and lies are coming to their ultimate conclusion. Many are much less kind and charitable than I. Some of these guys and girls have entire warehouses full of axes to grind, and are establishing machine shops just to grind those axes.

Weev used this rhetoric during his trial.

>You accuse me of being a bot, but in fact the mindless automaton is you. Your nation is doomed, but you are incapable of perceiving this information as it conflicts with your programming. I predict your future will be a difficult one.

This sort of high IQ, boisterous, machine-gunned shock rhetoric followed by Revelations sort of premonitions for his enemies is the exact sort of unique rhetoric weev uses, and the unique application of it is pretty obvious on inspection. There is no on else on HN I've ever read that uses quite this same method of speech in this exact style with the same background (look up user 'rabite' for other examples).

My phone: my private space. Anything in the browser: not my private space.

I want exactly that: the OS to translate between that boundary with a sane default. It’s unavoidable to have cases where this is inconvenient or irritating.

I don’t even know on iPhone how files are named “internally” (nor do I care), since I do not access the native file system or even file format but in 99% of all use cases come in contact only with the exported JPEGs. I do want to see all my photos on a map based on the location they were taken, and I want a timestamp. Locally. Not when I share a photo with a third party.

It is not just a default when it is the only option.

The word default is more appropriately used when the decision can be changed to something the user finds more suitable for their usecase

> Anything in the browser: not my private space.

Google’s main business is ads, ie running hostile code on your machine.

Agreed. It’s the good old “A little beating never hurt anyone. It certainly didn’t break me when my parents did it!” speech.

I seriously doubt that’s the case. Someone will take offense in your killing, and come back for you and your tribe. And so round and round it goes.
